Earth Day 2009

Earth Day is on April 22nd every year.  This year we’re asking, as never before, for change.  If we love our Earth, let’s show it.

Celery Pond Advocates vote to keep the Pond as a natural wetland and natural preserve for the numerous bird and reptile populations that frequent it.

To consider the national and international level - we need to think even bigger.  But it can start today and continue on everyday, when a person consciously makes an environmental and energy saving decision. Let that person be you.

Let’s make every day Earth Day!

Commitment to Long-Term Needs Prioritized by City Officials

The South Haven City Council has been busy trying to prioritize what’s ahead in the fiscal year.  Among a list of 97 items, a upfront priority (item #4) was devoted to “plan and review improvements” in the Dunkley redevelopment area during 2009-2010.

Going on info from Council and staff, Council said they will seek to continue improving the area, first concentrating on preserving the waterfront access for the public in the Dunkley area.  This no doubt refers to the Black River access.

(The Celery Pond Advocates hope this might also mean exploring the possibility of creating a public access to Celery Pond, ie. constructing a look-out/wetland information platform on the east side of the Pond where the City owns land.  CPA would gladly help the City in funding this project.)

The Council also hopes to develop a request on a proposal that seeks to possibly lease the area for restaurant development.

Third on the list within this priority, will be starting the task of environmental clean up within the publicly owned properties in the Dunkley area.  Bravo to the City for getting this to move in alternative directions.
