Summer 2008 Update on the Wetland

Things are much quieter this summer than last: less tourists are about, and lots of homes still sitting for sale from last season along with new spec houses. The Dunkley Street area of development is also quiet.

The two proposals before the City Council to develop the public lands were eliminated recently.

The US Army Corps also has to give its decision on the proposed marina development. With the empty boat slips about, one might ask why another marina would be needed.

The heavy rains in the region has made everything lush with green growth. Lake and river levels are higher and the air seems remarkably cleaner. The air seems pumped full of new oxygen.

It’s a good time to reasses what is facing us, and a good time to make changes in what some thought was so important and necessary.

In light of the economy and environmental flux, many of those ideas seem highly unlikely. All of the talk of fuel shortage/environmental change is calling us home to be responsible and alert. Let’s hope we will all shift with ease into the changing times.
