CPA/Community Meeting

Tonight, at 6:30pm, the Celery Pond Advocates are meeting at the corner of Dunkley and Dyckman Avenues, just opposite the bridge, near the Depot Store. All of the community is invited to join us, including the Mayor, the Council, and the City Manager.

For those of you driving, we can park our cars in back of the Depot, thanks to the kindness of the owners. For those who may not be able to walk the whole distance, we will be headed north on Dunkley Avenue, straight up and into the boat loading area, following the road as it curves around to the very end of a turn-around where there is a gazebo.

We plan to arrive at the gazebo around 6:45p, should you meet us from this point. There will be a short discussion and rest before we journey up the path of the ditch leading from the Black River towards Dunkley Avenue and eventually towards Celery Pond.

Specifically, we will be looking at the public land holdings, those adjacent to Black River Park and the loading area, and those parcels located along the ditch and into the wetland. We will be walking in part of the Black River Watershed.

Please bear in mind that we live in the almost 287 miles in Van Buren and Allegan counties called a watershed which describes the huge area of land that drains to a river or lake. “All of the streams in the Black River Watershed flow to the Black River, and eventually into Lake Michigan at South Haven. Our watershed is important because we rely on its water for drinking, recreation, industry and tourism. What you do makes a difference in keeping it clean!” (quoted from a brouchure describing the Black River Watershed Project).  For a map of the Watershed and more information check their site.  www.vbco.org/blackriver_2.asp

The weather is perfect for walking so we hope to see you! Bring your friends, too.
